An exhibition of cross-stitch works by  Vytautas Brukštas has opened at the Railway Museum in Vilnius. The exhibition features 32 works. The artist's creative journey is impressive: ranging from miniatures of 400 stitches to massive pieces containing over 70,000 stitches, which take the artist up to two years to complete.

"One of the most difficult tasks is choosing the embroidery pattern. As mentioned before, preparing a single piece often takes me two years, so selecting a pattern that won't grow tiresome during that time is truly challenging. Choosing a scheme is a responsible task involving the whole family, but the final decision on which picture to stitch is mine. I usually find patterns in embroidery forums, where like-minded people gladly share them," the artist explains.

The themes of the works are vast—from impressionistic landscapes to still lifes, and from soft blue palettes to bright, dynamic compositions. However, as the artist himself says, every painting brings a sense of wonder.

"The final stitch that completes the whole picture always brings a bit of a magical feeling. That is when I realize it is the full stop in the story I have been telling. What brings me the most joy is when the embroidered work is framed and hung on the wall. This gives me the greatest satisfaction and the inspiration to keep creating. For me, this is a way to give meaning to my time—leaving a small piece of myself behind," says Vytautas.

exhibition of Vytautas’s paintings will run until January 3, 2026, at the Vilnius Railway Museum.
